Infrastructure Design

Drainage & SuDS Design

Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) is an important part of any drainage design. IRES fully is up to date with the latest changes in SuDS strategy and flood risk analysis that the Environment Agency and DEFRA have introduced. These changes are already being incorporated into designs that IRES has prepared.

With the increasing occurrences of flooding, an important role IRES undertakes is flood defence and compensation design.

IRES can model the environment around rivers and watercourses and with flood information (either derived from the EA or generated from river modelling software), and can then plot the existing flood pattern; then propose defence works or flood compensation.

When undertaking preparation of a drainage strategy or Section 104 design for new infrastructure, our preferred method of design is to first identify the ground profile and any land constraints, then locate available outfalls for the drainage, and finally design both the highways and drainage in unison to allow a joined up design to be developed.

Richard has been responsible for designing some of the biggest pumping stations in the Midlands and designing drainage for unusually flat situations when he worked in Lincolnshire as well as many residential and industrial layouts. Steve has designed both highways and sewerage solutions throughout the country including new Section 104 schemes and upgrading or maintenance of existing systems; whilst working in Local Authority, and in design consultancies.

External Works/Below Slab Drainage

In addition to adoptable highways and drainage design, IRES offers external works design and advice to our clients.

This includes design / construction information and setting out details for service yards, car parks, site circulatory roads, driveways, private foul and storm drainage, retaining walls, steps, exposed brickwork, fencing, embankments, demarcation chambers, filter drains, and gravel boards.

We will prepare plans that can be included in a tender package.

If you require a complete package of works, going beyond the normal highway access and drainage outfalls, please discuss your project with us.

Junction & Traffic Signals Design

At IRES we have many years of experience designing all types of highway junction. Whether it is a T Junction on a residential estate, a signalised roundabout as an access to a development or Grade Separated Motorway junction, regardless of design stage, type of junction or complexity we can offer design solutions and support.

We use a range of modelling software to determine an informed design, and test the impact of schemes upon existing infrastructure.

We have the capability to assist with master planning and preliminary design or design advice working with your Architect teams all the way through to a detailed design and construction advice.

Using traffic signals is becoming ever more necessary as we seek to squeeze every last drop of capacity out of existing junctions.

We have a wide range of industry standard software modelling tools at our disposal.

Vehicle Swept Path Analysis

It is vital to know that your development layout will accommodate all the types of vehicles that will use it.

This will also be needed to achieve technical approval for your scheme, be it residential, industrial or commercial, you will need to demonstrate that the proposed layout is capable of being used by a variety of vehicles.

For this you will need a Vehicle Swept Path Analysis undertaken. We can help, no matter what type of vehicle is involved. The software we use has a huge library of vehicles installed,

Even if you need to access your site with a specific vehicle which isn’t standard sized, we can even help with that, because we can even create ‘custom vehicles’

Therefore, we have the ability to produce swept paths for your specialised vehicles. The software we have allows us to generate a replica of your vehicle and test that around your layout. We can undertake the necessary analysis to meet your specific needs.

In addition, we can provide advice about site layouts prior to the masterplan being finalised to prevent the need for abortive work and costs.

No site, or vehicle, is too big or too small.
